FOR SPOILERS SEE MY WIFE"S BLOG AT THE BOTTOM- none here
My wife is a huge Battlestar Galactica (BSG) nut. So when she heard that they were having a sneak preview Thursday night she was ecstatic. TV Guide is doing promotions around the country and this was apparently the first, where they will be showing episodes of popular shows in theaters before they air on TV.
So after work we headed downtown to the Magnolia theater. I dislike going downtown, for reasons I can't really explain. I'll go to events at the AAC or our Uptown office or even my doctor's office, but other social events down there just give me a queasy feeling. Maybe it's the ostentatious displays of wealth, or urban claustrophobia, I dunno.
We head down to a movie theater to see an advanced screening of a TV show (am I only one that finds this a little odd?) and about an hour later finally find the theater. We weren't the first to arrive (there were about 40 people in front of us) but by the time they finally opened the theater there was a huge mass behind us.
After shuffling in we had to wait about 40 minutes before they finally started. Before they started though, a woman from TV Guide got up and gave a speech. She was not at all familiar with the show, which made for humorous moments when a) she called it Battleship Galactica b) got really confused when the audience chanted "so say we all" and c) hesitantly read out "have a good frakkin time".
The show itself was not quite finished (there was still some green screen scenes) and the pauses where commercials would be were oddly strange in a movie theater. There were a few fans in costume (some group called The Colonial Defense Force) and definitely more than a few Ubergeeks. (We spent the whole time in line talking to an avid rpg'r).
Would I do it again? Not sure. Did it make my wife's day? Definitely! That alone made it worth the price of admission
