Hobby Madness

On Board Wargaming: North Texas Wargamers Gameday

I had originally planned on doing some OT at work today, but Troy threw down the gauntlet and offered up a Bloodbowl match. I've been slacking off on my league play lately, so I agreed.

It was the Cult of the Shire vs. Argent Rex (Khemri vs. High Elf). Some really bad luck on my part and a good first kickoff event allowed Troy to take dominate the first half. And even though I had four mummies, he was able to limit most of my turns to just standing up my players.

The second half was a bit more balanced and I was able to get one more score in. Troy almost got a third score in, but rolled double ones on a handoff and fumbled the ball to end the game. The Cult suffers their first loss of the season, which isn't too bad as I expected to 2-2 (at best) by this point.

Next Trimmer, Troy and I sat down to Age of Empires III. It has lots of bits and lots of options to play out. The gameplay reminds me of Goa meets Caylus or Pillars of the Earth. Goa because your gameplay and strategies have to adapt to what the other players are doing. Caylus and Pillars because you have to decide how you want to time picking your actions. I felt I did alright for my first time out (especially since Troy and Trimmer played Thursday) and I'm sure I'll be seeing a lot of this game over the coming months.
